Stephen Spurrier Jr. - September: Fading Light

2014-10-29 3

The dead beloved flashes the inward eye—
Though Scripture saith once to die…
Still, this eve—the crackling fade in summer,
She visits my inward self— one to not remember…
Dead, oh dead! Sleep long slumbers
Dream O dream thy serenading numbers! Angels bid
Thee welcome home!
This calm September
Fade not alone…
O hushed September, fading light—
Summer fades to Fall’s sweet night,
Hear O dearest, my last request: Dwell there with God—
Live sweet and blessed!
Fade O Summer—
Melt to fall!
There! The painted season’s call…
