Many many moons ago when I was but a lad
We used to sit round the open fire
To listen to our parents tell us stories
Some funny or scary and some that were sad.
But those days seem to have disappeared
No longer do you see bewilderment in young childrens eyes
Wishing they were on a four sailed schooner or
Heading to find treasure under bright blue skies.
Has it been so long that we don't communicate anymore
To be sat still listening to parents or grandparents
Spin yarns about when they were children and how things were then
But times have changed so much now it's like a memory now faded.
Modern times and technology have aided this sad affair
To be sat by the fire listening on dragons or the blitz
It's now laptops and firewalls and cookies we can't eat
Not nana's warm milk and homemade cake and Dickens' hits.
