The trawler now tied up in port
So long since she last sailed,
The peeling paint upon her hull
A sign that all has failed,
The barren seas that line the coast
Far from the eastern shore,
Now means this boat can't ride the waves
To fish there anymore.
So here beside the quay remains
As months turn into years,
A mist descends upon the town
So filled with bitter tears,
The crew that served so faithfully
All left and moved away,
To find some work as jobs were lost
They could no longer stay.
Her nets now tangled holed and torn
Across her deck they lie,
Now never to be used again
Those days have all gone by,
As rust has gripped the wheelhouse
Where the skipper steered her course,
Abandoned to the elements
Which offers no remorse.
