Today marks the start of my Mom’s stay.
She would have been ninety-six on this day.
There are many things that she has missed.
She can not observe the long continuing list.
Absent from her granddaughter’s wedding laughter.
Unable to hold her first infant great-granddaughter.
Although she is not physically here among us today.
I feel her gentle presence, in many different ways.
There is a responsibility from those who survive.
To keep the memory of the dearly departed alive.
She taught by example, how to gain independence.
There is a bit of her inside each of her descendants.
She was generous of her time, even when busy.
She was one of a kind. Her name was Lizzy.
Perhaps she can see the world with her heavenly soul.
She is remembered, even though the candles don’t glow.
