Karen Lea - The Beautiful Girls

2014-10-28 5

Bright and talented
Eagerness to learn, abound
Then I see the bandages
From an agony most profound

My eyes search the room
Each one special and different
Their own horrors they carry
Down individual paths they went

Beautiful girls too old
Lives too short
Or maybe too long
To see what they report

They speak of escaping
Rape, abuse, and similar trauma
Proud they are sober
Away from the drama

Who hurt you?
Ones so young
Has your essence been wasted?
All your songs been sung?

Who loves you?
With your swathed soul
You tried to escape
But the pain took its toll

Who cares about you?
The forgotten ones
Locked up and away
Rules now where there were none

I physically feel your torment
It washes over me
And with every sigh and sad smile
I want to remedy

Look into the haunted eyes of the beautiful girls
Eyes much too old, too much seen
As they plead with me to save them
………….just set them free
