The case of Nurse Kaci Hickox has forced the US to rethink Ebola guidelines.
Under new federal rules medics returning from the West African countries hardest hit by the disease should be “actively monitored” rather than put in compulsory quarantine. Hickox was the first person isolated in hospital under New Jersey’s 21-day rule despite showing no symptoms. She was released Monday to continue her quarantine at home.
On Monday, the UN said that returning health workers should not be subjected to restrictions that are not based on science.
Australia has also been criticised for its visa ban covering West African countries.
