The little boy, draped in his hide,
His eyes in a gasping quiver.
He had made a pact that day to climb
That tree near the Amazon River.
The skin beneath his fingernails
Bled from scraping against the bark.
The scuffle took more than halfday
And it was beginning to get dark.
A bird fluttered past him,
He looked down and saw the river-flow.
His arms and legs were ready to give in
But there were just a dozen metres to go.
When he got to the top,
He sat at the edge of the highest bough,
On the highest tree,
Didn't care how to make it back down
Because he made it just in time to see
A firelight torrent spread across the entire jungle,
When beneath the canopy
It looks only like a sleepy, bright bungle.
The meteor shower above the forest halls,
Falling cherubs over the Amazon
Right before night falls.
