Malaysia's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim begins his final appeal against conviction on a sex charge and a five year prison term.
He was convicted in March of a sex act with a male assistant.
Rights groups say the verdict was politically influenced.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) MALAYSIAN OPPOSITION LEADER ANWAR IBRAHIM SAYING:
"He just began the submission, so a long way to go. I'm always confident based on facts and law."
A ruling against him is likely to end his political career, and his supporters could take to the streets.
This is Anwar's second conviction for such an offence. His first was overturned in 2004.
