Firefighters in Mesa, Arizona recently came to a horse’s aid. The animal had gotten out of its pen and fell into a swimming pool in a Phoenix suburb.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday a homeowner reported that his horse had somehow landed into his pool. Mesa firefighters and staffers from Arizona Equine Rescue Organization responded to the scene and found the horse in the shallow end.

The crew contacted a veterinarian who came to the home to tranquilize the horse. Fire officials focused on keeping the animal’s head out of the water while straps were secured around his body.

Together the team gingerly hoisted the animal out of the water. They pulled the motionless horse towards a nearby grassy area.

As the creature lay on the grass, he could be heard steadily snoring. Just a day after the rescue, the horse named Stormy was back in his corral eating carrots, as if nothing happened.

According to Stormy’s owner, he became spooked after wandering away from his pen. That scare might have been the reason why he got so close to the water.

Fortunately, the horse wasn’t injured.
