On Wednesday, a 7-year-old boy was tragically killed after being run over by an ice cream truck. The incident occurred in South Los Angeles, shortly after 7 at night.
A 7-year-old boy was tragically killed on Wednesday after being run over by an ice cream truck. The incident occurred in South Los Angeles, shortly after 7 at night.
Reportedly the child had been riding his bike on the side of the truck and may have even been holding onto it while the vehicle was still moving.
The boy lost his balance and fell under the back wheels. The ice cream truck had been traveling at about 5 miles per hour at the time of the incident.
The child was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injures. His condition was initially listed as critical.
Approximately an hour after his surgery began, the boy was pronounced dead. According to police, some witnesses to the accident smashed the truck’s windshield and tossed bricks and sticks at the vehicle.
Law enforcement officials also said someone might have pulled a knife on him. As a result, the driver sustained minor injures.
Investigators are hoping to identify those involved in the alleged assault. Police have also interviewed the ice cream truck driver. He has not been placed under arrest.
The incident is currently being ruled a traumatic accident.
