The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a video they hope will clarify the meaning and importance of their temple garments.

Much of the reason behind providing the informative resource is said to stem from the lack of verifiable and accurate information on the Internet concerning the Mormon religious wear.

Many may know the clothing in question as ‘Magical Mormon Underwear’, a moniker that is declared to be not only inaccurate, but offensive.

In the roughly 4-minute piece a narrator explains that the plain white garb, which resembles a shirt and shorts, is worn under clothing and intended to serve as a reminder of the commitment one has made to God.

At the beginning of the piece, there are numerous images and mentions of the religious wear routinely donned in other faiths.

Those include the clergy ensembles worn during Catholic services, the prayer shawls used in Orthodox Judaism, and the robes of Buddhist monks.

In regards to them comes the message, “The wearing of religious clothing reflects commitment and devotion to God. Latter-day Saints seek the same respect and sensitivity regarding our sacred clothing as shown to those of other faiths who wear religious vestments.”
