Salma lives in a small Palestinian village in the West Bank, situated on the Green Line that separates Israel from the Occupied Territories. Her lemon tree orchard is considered a threat to the security of her new neighbour, the Israeli Minister of Defense. He orders Salma to cut the trees down under the pretext that terrorists could hide amongst them. Salma is very determined to save her magnificent lemon trees, no matter the cost. She’s ready to go before the Supreme Court in order to confront the army’s formidable lawyers, who are backed up by the government.
But a Palestinian widow is not free to behave the way she wishes, particularly when a simple neighborhood squabble becomes a major strategic issue. Salma will find an unexpected ally in Mira, the Defense minister’s wife. Between the two women a bond forms that reaches beyond the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
