A health official in Colorado wants to put an end to the manufacture and sale of many marijuana edibles.

If things go the way Jeff Lawrence of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is hoping, pot brownies, cookies, and most of the candy will be permanently removed from shelves.

He’s identified marijuana baked goods and sweets as violating the law prohibiting the marketing of pot to children.

It’s his recommendation that the only edible forms of the drug that remain available are lozenges and liquid drops.

As for the people who have invested millions in establishing marijuana edible businesses, Lawrence’s recommendation includes one possible route to avoiding a complete loss.

He suggests that they continue manufacturing foods, just not the kind that contains pot. That way, they can cultivate new clientele nationwide.

The Colorado Department of Revenue, the government body that oversees the marijuana industry, has the final word on the matter.

They are reviewing the proposal submitted by Lawrence and his colleagues among several others.

Other matters under general consideration by officials include establishing labeling and manufacturing protocols that would make it clear which foods contain pot and which don’t.
