KARACHI (Dunya News)— At least eight armed dacoits stormed into the Edhi welfare centre in the Mithadar area of Karachi on Sunday.
According to initial reports, Abdul Sattar Edhi, a prominent philanthropist and social worker was held hostage by the armed men who raided the centre, taking away millions of rupees.
Reportedly, Edhi was asleep when the dacoits attacked the welfare centre. Edhi along with the centre staff was held hostage while they continued to rob the centre for about half an hour.
The dacoits forcefully grabbed the cupboard keys from Abdul Sattar Edhi and took away 10 million rupees in cash, 5 kilograms of gold and other valuable items.
While talking to media, Edhi said the dacoits woke him up and rushed straight to the cupboard where the money and gold was kept. He expressed his grief over the dacoity saying that he has been deprived of some valuable belongings of other people.
Unfortunately, there were no security guards present in the welfare centre at the time of the incident and neither were any CCTV cameras installed.
Edhi centre robbery case has been registered at the Mithadar police station. The case was registered in the presence of Faisal Edhi, Edhi’s son. The police have collected finger prints from the robbery sight and have begun further investigation into the matter.
