The moments leading up to the birth of a baby are often chaotic. However a couple in Iowa had it far more challenging than most expectant parents.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Ben and Rachel Kohnen were inside their SUV flying down a highway.

They had been traveling about 30 miles over the speed limit because Rachel knew the baby was coming and they were rushing to get to the hospital in time.

Ben was behind the wheel and doing about 85 in a 55 mile per hour zone when he passed an officer. The cop began following them and turned on the lights.

Rachel informed her husband they couldn’t pull over, as she believed the baby was coming right away. Ben listened to his wife and continued driving.

The officer chased the SUV for a bit before calling for backup. The couple called 911 to tell the dispatcher why they weren’t stopping but it was too late. The tire spikes had already been laid.

With flat tires, the Kohnens were forced to get out of the vehicle. Rachel was left standing in the middle of the highway with guns pointed at her.

Eventually the police learned the true reason they didn’t willingly stop. Officers escorted Rachel to the hospital where the healthy 10-pound baby girl was born.
