Israeli riot police scuffled with Palestinians outside one of Jerusalem's most revered and politically sensitive religious compounds on Friday (October 17) after Palestinians were prevented from entering the mosque.

An Israeli police spokeswoman said that Israel imposed an age limitation on the entrance to the compound for men under 50 after receiving information that some people planned for a protest inside the compound.

She said two were arrested during the scuffles.

Dozens of Palestinians who were prevented from entering the mosque held the Friday prayer in front of Israeli forces who blocked the roads leading to the compound.

Israeli police in riot gear used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators in Issawiya neighbourhood.
