Mexico is awash in violence and death, the product of ineffectual anti-drug campaigns begun under former president Felipe Calderon with the blessing of Washington. Conservative estimates put the death toll as no less than 85,000. The clamor for answers and justice on the part of the families of these tens of thousands of victims is perhaps best personified by poet Javier Sicilia. Following the death of his own son, 24-year old Juan Francisco in March 2011, Sicilia has campaigned non-stop to put an end to organized crime and drug-related violence, Has become a national symbol of the struggle and has received massive support from the population in his efforts. The documentary "Javier Sicilia: a poet against the drug lords" tells his story. teleSUR
