Want to watch "Game of Thrones," but don't subscribe to the cable channel? Soon you can. HBO has announced that they will launch a standalone online streaming service next year. The move to make HBO available to those with just a broadband connection is a significant milestone for a channel long dependent on cable distributors.
And speaking of online streaming, Netflix has announced that it will begin offering all 236 episodes of "Friends" beginning on January 01. "Friends," which aired its final episode in 2004, has previously only been available in broadcast and cable television syndication in the U.S. and on DVD.
Both announcements could be a further catalyst to spur more people to dump their cable subscriptions by cutting the cord and relying solely on streaming for their TV viewing needs.
