For some people, winning the lottery is a dream that stretches back to childhood. A man in Bend, Oregon recently hit the jackpot and fulfilled a long withstanding promise to his sibling.

Upon learning he had landed the prize, 45-year-old Eric Hale contacted his brother Quinn in Washington to tell him they were splitting the money. Sharing lottery proceeds is something the men had talked about when they were children.

Eric is the winner of the September 24th Powerball drawing. He decided to hold off until recently to claim his prize. Now, after taxes, each brother is about $330,000 richer.

Eric didn’t have any doubts about sharing his money. After placing the phone call to Quinn Eric quickly asked if he was sitting down before informing him they, not just he, had won.

The gesture is exceptionally heartwarming in this case, as Eric only works part-time as a sample giver. He plans to use the windfall to return to graduate school to complete a degree for counseling. He will also do some traveling.

Quinn will use the cash to pay off student loans and his mortgage. He also plans to put a bit of the money towards the purchase a new motor home.
