SHARJAH (Dunya News/AP) – Australia beat Pakistan by 93 runs in the first one-day international at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.
All of Pakistani batsmen returned to pavilion after making a total of 162 score in 36.3 overs. Umar Akmal was ousted on 46 while Sarfraz Ahmed on 34.
With a seemingly careful batting inning, Australia had set 256 run target.
The inning ended with Australia scoring 255 runs with the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs.
Smith’s glorious 101 score took Aussies towards setting the target.
Smith, who didn’t even score a half century in his previous 38 ODIs, made a resolute 101 off 118 balls with six fours and two sixes after captain George Bailey won the toss and elected to bat first.
The all-rounder was involved in an 86-run second-wicket stand with David Warner (43) before holing out in the deep in the 45th over.
Shahid Afridi finally ended his six-match wicketless run in ODIs and bagged 3-46 to make up somewhat for the loss of suspended Saeed Ajmal and injured Mohammad Hafeez.
Mitchell Johnson (21) lifted the total by hitting three successive boundaries in Wahab Riaz s last over of the innings.
