Brazil's 142 million registered voters have the final word today. Attention is now centered on who will take second place, given that incumbent President Dilma Rousset of the Workers' Party has enjoyed a strong and consistent lead over her two closest rivals. Opinion polls offered a last-minute surprise yesterday evening, reversing the lead of Marina Silva of the Brazilian Socialist Party as second-place candidate, and giving a slight edge to Aecio Neves of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party. While the numbers varied by a mere one or two percentage points, last nights polls gave Rousset 46%, followed by Neves with 27%, with Silva trailing at 24%.
