We are facing a massacre --- this was the message from Kurdish fighters who are battling to hold onto Kobani.

They say Islamic State militants are closing in on the Syrian border town (tanks) and have already bombarded surrounding areas, in this latest video posted to a social media website whose content Reuters cannot independently verify.

Kobani has become the front-line for Islamic State's bid to create a cross-border caliphate. The fighting, so close to Syria's border with Turkey - that it could force a decision from Ankara about military action here. While Turkey has assured Kurds it will do anything to keep the town from falling into the hands of IS, it hasn't yet committed any troops.
