Innovative submarines are helping both scientists and average folks probe some of the ocean’s mysteries. The C-EXPLORER 3 from Dutch company, U-Boat Worx, is one potential contender.
As its name suggests, there is seating for three people all with clear views of the ocean around them. The watercraft is referred to as a luxury personal submersible.
It comes with a three liter mission oxygen capacity which allows it to operate for 16 hours underwater at depths of up to 33 hundred feet. The C-EXPLORER 3 can be outfitted with things needed for extreme ocean exploration like high-definition cameras, controllable arms, magnetometers and heavy duty lights.
The submersible has a 360° acrylic pressure hull. A 43.2 kilowatt hour electrical lithium-ion battery makes it possible to hit speeds of 3 knots underwater and 4 knots while traveling on the surface.
Although the quarters inside the vessel are slightly cramped, the seats appear to be plump and cozy.
The maker of the C-EXPLORER 3 notes “Cabin temperature and humidity is maintained at a comfortable level by the submersible's air-conditioning system and all life support related parameters are monitored by the pilot.”
The company debuted the final design of the vessel at the 2013 Monaco Yacht Show. The selling price for it is said to be somewhere around $2.3 million.
