The Fresno County Sheriff's Department is asking the public for help in solving a case involving the deaths of more than 900 chickens.

Someone slaughtered the chickens with what investigators think was a golf club. The disturbing incident occurred on the evening of September 19th.

The creatures were killed in a shed on the grounds of Foster Farms, which is located in Caruthers, California. Deputies arrived on scene the following morning, after employees discovered the deceased chickens.

A statement released by the facility notes “This appears to be a random act of violence. It is the express policy of Foster Farms to treat its birds humanely and with compassion. Any intentional act to the contrary is unacceptable.”

Detectives have located a piece of a golf club, indicating one was used in the crime. They believe another weapon was also involved in the slayings.

Foster Farms is working with the department during the investigation and has put up a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Deputy Chris Curtice has referred to the crime as a sample of psychopathic behavior which can often escalate.
