Adnan Oktar: I had told ISIL that the 49 hostages were ‘Sunnis, and that they must let them go.’

Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Conversation on A9TV dated September 20th, 2014

The 49 consulate personnel taken captive by ISIL were released this morning and brought to Turkey.

ISIL released the hostages after Turkey said it would not get involved in this matter. I issued a call to ISIL the day before the hostages were released and told them that the Turks they were holding were Sunnis. I told them it was wrong in religious law to hold them because they were Sunnis. They let them go the next day.

- Indeed, you said that if the state were to issue a statement in the context of Sunni belief, they would let them go.

Adnan Oktar: Of course. What goes on behind the scenes is not what people think. Turkey gave an international guarantee before the eyes of the world that it would not participate in military operations against ISIL. Then ISIL released the hostages in the wake of that. There can be no question of Turkey engaging in an operation after the hostages’ release.
