Owners of the 2015 Corvette equipped with the Performance Data Recorder are being cautioned against using the full extent of the technology’s Valet Mode, as doing so could result in breaking the law in several states.

Among the tasks the potentially illicit advanced technology performs is recording what’s going on inside the driver and passenger area of the car while the owner is elsewhere.

Laws vary from state to state, with some requiring the consent of all parties involved.

Others only need a go-ahead from one, but either way if the driver isn’t involved in the chat, they can’t be considered an actual permission granter.

As a means of protecting drivers from being hit with felony charges, GM has given customers a bit of advice.

They recommend that the in-car recording feature not be used until the problem can be fixed.

Those who can’t restrain themselves are advised to get the proper permissions before activating the Valet Mode.

An update that will prevent Corvette owners from breaking the law is in the works, but there’s no word on specifically how it will operate.
