Denzel Washington thriller "The Equalizer" tops box office charts with $35 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales over the weekend.
The film's about a man who helps save a teenage girl from the grip of Russian gangsters.
Last weekend's hit "The Maze Runner" came in second earning $17.5 million at domestic theaters, according to studio estimates.
It stars Dylan O'Brien who along with a group of other boys is trapped in an isolated paradise by a giant, moving concrete maze.
And "The Boxtrolls" starring green cardboard-wearing monsters came in third during its first weekend in theater with $17.3 million.
