Cuban government sours on ‘Hugo’ and ‘Che’ revolutionary scent

The eau de Hugo is not so chic in the Cuban government's eyes. Nor is the manly musk of Cuban revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

Cuba has now aborted its plans to develop colognes in honor of the late revolutionary hero Ernesto "Che" Guevara and former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

It says the project disrespects two "sacred" revolutionary symbols.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CUBAN TV PRESENTER IRMA SHELTON, SAYING:

"It was clarified that it is not true that the family of 'Che' [Guevara] and [Hugo] Chavez had approved such a use of their names, as one of the officials told the U.S. news agency AP. For this mistake there will be taken the appropriate disciplinary measures. Initiatives of this nature will never be accepted by our people or by the revolutionary government. The symbols - of yesterday, today and forever - are sacred."
