EMMA WATSON NUDE PHOTO LEAK WAS JUST A MARKETING STUNT
A mysterious web page called "Emma You Are Next" emerged online just hours after Emma Watson launched the HeForShe campaign in a rousing speech at the UN on Sunday, in which she appealed to men to speak out over gender equality. The page was threatening to leak nude photos of the British actress and featured the 4chan logo, suggesting that members of the forum were behind the stunt. But as the site Mashable reports, the page is actually a ploy, dreamt up by American marketing firm Rantic, with a very clear aim: get 4Chan shut down.
So since Wednesday, web users trying to access the "Emma You Are Next" page are redirected to the front page of Rantic's site. It displays a crossed out version of the 4Chan logo and a short text denouncing the platform for its involvement in the recent celebrity hacking scandal and for publishing leaked private photos of celebrities, some of them naked. Some of the stars publicists went on to hire the marketing company, wanting an end to 4Chan`s activities.
And so the fake site was set up as a first step to making this happen, and the campaign continues on social networks where critics of the forum have been posting under the #shutdown4chan hashtag. They have also been using the keywords to criticize 4Chan members, accusing them of flouting people's online privacy.
