Chinese social media users are lashing out at a man who tied a dog to the back of a vehicle. The animal was seen being pulled behind a moving black van.
The yellow dog couldn’t keep up with the speed of the vehicle and it was dragged along the pavement. Reportedly, the canine had been bleeding.
A number of motorists who witnessed the scene snapped photos. The images were then posted to social media. Many angry comments followed as a result.
Given that the vehicle’s license plate was captured, some internet investigators obtained the owner’s name, phone number and address. That information was then shared on the web.
Following the backlash and leak of his personal information, the driver came forward to defend himself and submitted to an interview with a Chinese TV station.
The male stated “It was not my intention to do this … I had no choice because it bites a lot…One friend suggested I should stone the dog to death. I couldn't do it, that's why I tied this dog behind my car to get rid of it.”
He expressed regret at the situation and asked people to stop sharing his private information online. The man claimed he left the dog on the side of the road and at that time it was still alive.
An animal rights organization has visited the site where the canine was reportedly dropped off but found nothing.
