Two women have been arrested for allegedly posing as maids to burglarize residences in Orange County, California.
Surveillance footage captured 36-year-old Sandra Rojas and 38-year-old Marie Rojas parking outside one of the homes. The females got out of the vehicle with cleaning supplies, making it appear as though they were hired to tidy up the house.
Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock explained “They had no intention of cleaning the house. They would steal money or jewelry and then they would leave.”
Given that neighbors would see the women carrying vacuums and such, nobody suspected any nefarious activity. Police think the suspects carefully targeted the victims and would only choose the residences that already had real maids.
They are accused of following legitimate cleaners around to see which residences they went to. On Monday, authorities arrested the women, who are related by marriage.
Detectives reportedly located evidence at a Riverside home that indicates the females may have been involved in other local, unsolved burglaries. Cops have recovered some of the stolen property and intend to return the items to the owners.
