A construction rig overturned in Dallas on Monday afternoon. The boring rig, which weighs approxiately 40,000-pounds was left essentially dangling over a ramp.
Due to the accident, cars along the George Bush Turnpike and Dallas North Tollway were left severely backed up. The efforts to get the machine upright took hours.
Tow-truck driver and heavy equipment operator, Tony Williams arrived on scene to assist. The exceptionally brave man put on a safety harness and helped attach cables to the rig. He was somehow able to ignore the fact that underneath him was an 80-foot drop straight onto a bridge.
Fortunately he wasn’t injured and managed to attach the cables. From there, the rig was carefully pulled upright.
Reportedly the drilling rig somehow fell off the flatbed truck that had been hauling it. The only thing that stopped it from dropping to the ground was a concrete wall.
The machine, which is valued at $700,000 damaged the ramp railing but no structural issues have been reported. It’s unclear if the machine was destroyed or if it can be repaired.
