How much coffee do you need to make it through the work day? A new survey has revealed that there are certain professionals who are more likely to drink far more than others.
Out of 10,000 employees in varying jobs, 85% claimed to consume at least three cups of coffee a day.
Journalists and media staff landed the number 1 spot on the list, deeming them the heaviest coffee drinkers. Police officers came in second, followed by teachers, plumbers or trade workers and nurses or medical employees rounding out the top 5.
Company executives got the number 6 spot, while telesale staffers, IT technical support employees, retail workers and drivers landed in the lower rungs.
Of those surveyed, 70% said their job performance would be impacted if they didn’t consume any coffee. The survey researchers noted “It seems that drinking coffee is a necessity on the job in a wide variety of professions. The highest consumers, sinking over four cups daily, were those with stressful careers.”
Last year, a paper released by the University of South Carolina Aiken explained caffeine consumption should not exceed 200 milligrams per day, or the equivalent of four cups.
