Freddy Martin & His Orchestra recorded Louisiana Hayride in New York City on October 4, 1932 on Brunswick label 6407. The vocalist is not named but I believe him to be Tony Sacco. This video is also a tribute to the Louisiana Hayride radio, and later, TV show. The show began in Shreveport, Louisiana broadcasting from that city's Municipal Auditorium. Country singers were invited to perform and be heard over powerful KWKH, 1130 which broadcast with the maximum power allowed by the FCC. The show could be heard worldwide during its' hay day (pun intended). The program gave many a performer their first exposure on the road to fame~Johnny Cash and Hank Williams being the most notable in the C&W category. Although not a country singer, a young Elvis Presley got his first national exposure over KWKH in 1954 and signed a one year contract to make regular appearances on the show. This music is most uncharacteristic for Freddy Martin who was known for his sophisticated orchestral arrangements. Martin would occasionally arrange the works of classical composers such as Tschaikovsky into his musical repertoire.
