"We want to build on the progress that Rob has made. And so folks, I have officially entered this campaign."

That's Doug Ford -- brother of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford -- announcing he will take over the race to run Canada's largest city.

The announcement comes after Rob Ford was hospitalized and diagnosed with a tumor.

Rob Ford gained global notoriety for admitting he smoked crack cocaine and steadfastly refusing to resign even as he admitted buying illegal drugs while in office and checked himself into rehab.

"We all know that Rob is a fighter. We are all behind him. And he will beat this and he will be back at City Hall soon."

Doug Ford was elected as a city councilor in 2010 when his younger brother became Mayor.
