Oscar Pistorius is guilty of culpable homicide, a charge equivalent to manslaughter, for the shooting death of his girlfriend on Valentine's Day last year.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) JUDGE, THOKOZILE MASIPA, SAYING:
"Having regard to the totality of this evidence in this matter the unanimous decision of this court is the following...; One, one count one, murder ....the accused is found not guilty and is discharged. Instead, he's found guilty of culpable homicide."
In making her final ruling, Judge Thokozila Masipa said the track star and double amputee was negligent when he fired four shots through a closed bathroom door, almost instantly killing Reeva Steenkamp who was standing just behind it.
The defense had said Pistorius mistook Steenkamp for a middle-of-the-night intruder and that the shooting was a tragic accident.
