In India, rice replaces ice in bucket challenge

The overwhelming success of the "ice" bucket challenge has inspired a journalist in India to launch her own challenge -- replacing replacing ice with rice.

In the ice bucket challenge people dump a bucket of ice water over their head to encourage donations to a charity.

In this new twist a bucket of rice is donated to someone in need.

The movement's Facebook page defines it as a "local challenge for local needs" and has clocked tens of thousands of 'likes'.

But it's getting international support.

Germany's ambassador to India on Tuesday delivered rice to families in a New Delhi slum.

"The society is still accepting the fact that there are poor people and I think we have to change that and this is why we are taking on this action here."
