The London School of Economics and Political Science has apologized for sending about 200 students an acceptance email addressed to Kung Fu Panda.
Shortly after sending it they reached out to students again explaining that there had been a computer glitch and assured all that corrected notices would be following.
For some, the college’s brief explanation of what had happened was not enough.
Shortly after reading the original emails, some recipients speculated that the emails were racially charged, as over 25 percent of the school’s enrollees are Asian.
One said, ‘…I’m deeply worried about the flagrant racial stereotyping which LSE have seemingly refused to apologise for in their vague follow-up email.’
Another commented that her initial reaction to the email was that it was a racial joke.
Given that the aftermath of the email was lingering, a spokesperson for the school offered more details about what had happened.
It was explained that Kung Fu Panda is one of the test names, and in the process of populating the name field on the letters something went awry.
Also stressed was that other names are used for trial runs including Paddington, Homer, and Tinkerbell.
