A British boy suffering from cancer, whose parents were briefly detained in Spain after taking him there from England, left hospital in Malaga this morning to seek specialist treatment in the Czech Republic.
Five-year-old Ashya King, who has a severe brain tumour, was accompanied by his parents.
The King family removed Ashya from hospital in England without medical consent, sparking an international police search on suspicion of negligence.
They published several videos defending their actions, saying they wanted to sell their flat in Spain to fund proton beam treatment.
On Friday a British court ruled that the boy could travel to the Czech Republic.
The Proton Therapy Centre in Prague offers technology is not widely available in the UK.
Cancer specialists say although it can work, proton beam treatment is ineffective in many cases.
Ashya’s British doctors had argued that conventional chemotherapy would be better in his case, but say they have always been open to potential treatment in Prague and will support clinicians involved in his future care.
