The search for debris and possible survivors from a small U.S. private plane that flew over Cuba crashed just northeast of Jamaica on Friday was still underway, officials said.
"Our basic mission at this time at this time is to continue the search to locate possible wreckage and/or survivors," said Jamaica's Coast Guard Commander Antonette Wemyss-Gorman .
The U.S. Embassy in Jamaica said they had been in contact with the family members of those on board the private plane.
"We're keeping them (family members) updated. We really can provide no more information than that at this point. I would also like to take this moment to thank the government of Jamaica for its response, and its whole-of-government approach to this tragedy. And I think seeing all the representatives here is a good indication of that.
