Russia implies the US is hindering the peace process in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says Russia is “doing and will do” everything possible to secure peace in eastern Ukraine.

The comment came during a press conference in Moscow in which he reiterated the need for a ceasefire in the area.

But Lavrov implied the US is hindering hopes of a swift progression towards a truce:
“The surge in anti-Russian rhetoric that we have seen at the exact moment when there is a very active effort to seek a political solution shows that the party of war in Kyiv is receiving active external support, in this case from the United States,” he said.

Later on Thursday (September 4), Lavrov reportedly discussed and agreed on the need for a ceasefire with his French and German counterparts, while “avoiding any action that could undermine the positive trend.”
