Puppies and dogs love to get into some of the strangest stuff. A 3-year-old Great Dane was recently taken to a Portland emergency animal hospital by his owners.

It was soon discovered the pooch had eaten a vast amount of socks. The dog’s owners became concerned when the animal started vomiting and retching.

Once they transported him to the veterinary hospital, Dr. Ashley Magee took him into a room for some x-rays. Magee found what was described as ‘a lot of foreign material in his stomach’.

Veterinarians knew the mystery matter couldn’t be digested, which meant the pooch would have to undergo surgery. The operation lasted for about 2 hours. Magee soon learned the material in his stomach was a bunch of socks.

One by one she pulled them all out. In the end, she had removed 43 and a half socks. Whatever happened to the missing half sock remains a mystery.

The pooch was sent home a day after the surgery. A spokeswoman for the DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital said the Great Dane’s ordeal is probably the strangest case the facility has ever dealt with.
