SCOTLAND: CELEBRITIES TAKE SIDES IN INDEPENDENCE DEBATE
With campaigning ahead of the September 18 Scottish independence referendum in full swing, a growing number of well-known faces are taking to the web to share their thoughts and feelings, openly stating whether theirs will be a yes or no vote, and urging their fans and followers to do the same.
The "let's stay together" campaign is for everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland who wants Scotland to stay part of the UK but doesn`t have a vote in Scotland. It is extremely active on the web, and has garnered a great deal of support from celebrities. Stars from the small and silver screens, singers, musicians; the likes of Judi Dench, Simon Cowell, Mick Jagger and also Patrick Stewart, have all added their signature to an open letter to voters reminding them that the decision on whether to leave the UK is of course theirs, but they must remember it will have a huge effect on the rest of the United Kingdom.
And while a host of stars have joined the “No” to independence camp, others have chosen to campaign for Scottish independence, and added their support to the “Yes Scotland” campaign. Scottish rock bands Franz Ferdinand and Mogwai for example have clearly stated their stance on social media and will also be staging a concert four days before the referendum in a bid to sway undecided voters to go for independence. Supporters of the "yes" vote are convinced it will mean Scotland can finally take control of its own future…
