Austin Police are asking the public for help in finding an unknown person who dropped off a skull at a local Goodwill store. The human skull was donated back in July.

When an employee made the shocking discovery, the police were notified. Officers took the skull and handed it over to the Medical Examiner.

Now, the M.E. needs some questions answered. Detective Derek Israel of the Austin Police Department’s Homicide Unit explained “The Medical Examiner of Travis County, they have a responsibility to try to identify the identity of any remains and the circumstance under which the person died. So they requested the assistance of the police department.”

The main focus now is finding the individual who made the bizarre donation. Israel revealed that an examination of the skull did not show any signs of foul play.

The Medical Examiner's Office has been able to determine the skull came from an adult who likely died sometime within the past two years.

Police believe that the skull may have once been part of an anatomical model or collection due to the way it’s wired together.
