The odds of spotting a mountain lion cub in the wild are pretty slim. So the fact that an adorable, blue-eyed cougar cub was found in a residential neighborhood is even more surprising.
In mid August, the baby mountain lion was discovered on the front porch of a house in Kettle Falls, Washington. The homeowner is the one who first spotted the cub and reported it to officials.
Rescuers described him as ‘orphaned, abandoned and malnourished’. Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s public information officer said “We looked all over for mama cougar and couldn’t find any signs of her… with a kitten that young, she’d be looking for it if it was around.”
The three-week-old cub was soon transported to wildlife rehabilitators at Mt. Spokane Veterinary Hospital for a check-over and treatment.
Once he regained his health, the baby was flown across the country to ZooAmerica located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The beautiful creature is not yet on display but is instead receiving care and bonding with staffers in the Animal Health Building.
The zoo is chronicling the cub’s time at the zoo on its Facebook page. Thus far, the animal seems to be eating well and looks to be quite content getting all the attention.
