Tragically a TV crew member with the famous reality show ‘Cops’ passed away after he was mistakenly shot by law enforcement officials. 38-year-old Bryce Dion worked as a sound operator.

The fatal shooting occurred while filming officers in Omaha, Nebraska. The cops had been confronting a robbery suspect, identified as 32-year-old Cortez Washington.

It began when one of the local officers had responded to a call for back-up at a Wendy’s restaurant. Two ‘Cops’ crew members had been with that policeman. Together, they all went into the Wendy’s, but at some point, Dion got separated from the cameraman.

The confrontation inside the building escalated when the suspect fled. He was armed with a black pullet gun that looked like a real handgun.

Gunfire broke out and Washington was fatally shot. Somehow, Dion who was reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest was also shot. The soundman was fatally struck by a single bullet.

The projectile entered his body in an area under the arm that was unprotected by the vest and went into his chest. Dion worked for the show for seven years.

Omaha’s police chief commented “My concern with my officers is that they are taking this very hard. Bryce was their friend.”
