Bao Bao the panda, one of the National Zoological Park’s cutest inhabitants in Washington, D.C., recently celebrated her first birthday on August 23rd. As part of the celebration, Bao Bao got her very own cake.

The large tiered cake showcased a big number 1. It was made of frozen diluted apple juice and decorated with sweet potato and carrot appliqués. The cake was dyed pink using beet juice.

The panda certainly seemed to appreciate all the hard work that went into the treat. She went right up to the cake and gave it a few licks.

Once she realized how tasty it was, she climbed up on the first tier and wrapped her arms around the number 1. After a little bit, she got back on the ground and continued sampling her specially made treat.

In addition to her cake, zoo staffers also placed honey treats, which are her favorite snacks under three marked posters. That aspect reflects a traditional Chinese birthday ceremony where objects are placed in front of a child and whichever thing is chosen is a prediction of the future.

In Bao Bao’s case, she picked the honey treats under the peaches poster, which means she’ll live a long life.
