Frustration mounts among war-weary Gaza residents

Hundreds of Palestinian families taking shelter at UN-run schools say they just want to go home.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) WOMAN SHELTERING IN UN-RUN SCHOOL RABAB EL BASOUS, SAYING:

"We only have one demand, that they reach a ceasefire so that we can go home in peace...We don't want aid or supplies or anything. We want to go home and that's it."

But with no peace deal in sight, these families have no choice.

They are among thousands of people warned by the Israeli army to evacuate their homes ahead of military bombardments of their neighborhoods.

This man says he tries to remain positive.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) MAN SHELTERING IN UN-RUN SCHOOL, FADI KAFARNE, SAYING:

"We are optimistic, but we were optimistic before. Israel, or the Zionist enemy, wastes this optimism through its operations and air strikes on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip."
