Imran’s sit-in protest brings back indirect role of military into settling down political disputes. By misusing Tahirul Padari and Imran Khan as tissue papers, the army would now prioritize and contextualize its geo-strategic agenda in using its soft power through behind the scene intense engagements with political players from both sides of the divide. The army would not stage a coup in a situation when all political parties are overtly against its intervention and backing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The military and Intelligence Establishment used duo as pressure cookers and now have subdued government which has surrendered its right of policing on national security. And now the military is on the edge of abandoning the duo after securing assurance from government to give in its right on national security.
