The toys were taken from a number of Toys "R" Us stores. 35-year-old Garry Fairbee, 33-year-old Tarah Dailey, 34-year-old Melissa Dailey and 40-year-old Troy Koehler were all arrested in connection to the unusual theft ring.
Local law enforcement has been working on the case for the past four months. It took cops about 10 hours to carry what amounted to truckloads of Legos out of residential homes and storage lockers.
They suspect Koehler purchased the costly sets from shoplifters and later resold the items online. His accomplices allegedly stole Lego boxes from Toys “R” Us locations and damaged them.
The busted-up packages would then be taken to Koehler, who is accused of going into the stores to purchase the same items. He would later use his real receipt to return the damaged box.
With help from surveillance footage and good-old fashioned detective work, cops located the four suspects and recovered 18 pallets worth of Legos. Each of the sets was valued at $100 or more.
The total value of the toys is estimated to be worth about 200 grand, $40,000 of which is thought to be stolen.
